SHOPHOUSE CHIC
MONDRIAN SINGAPORE
Straddling Neil Road and Duxton, Mondrian Singapore's mission is simple: to immerse visitors in the city's most vibrant pocket, and to give locals a lively place to play.
Case in point: the Jungle Ballroom tropical bar, accessible by a secret tunnel and which features a sunken lava stone bar, and Italian restaurant Bottega di Carna, a collaboration with legendary Italian butcher, Dario Cecchini.
There are 304 rooms and suites, including a small number of street-facing shophouse suites. Robbyn Carter, the CEO of Los Angeles-based Studio Carter which is behind Modrian Singapore's design, lived in the country for 12 years and tapped into her fond memories of the city's unique urban landscape, putting a modern, and at times abstract spin on the classic Singaporean shophouse.
And while the hotel mostly celebrates old-and-new Singapore, the rooftop pool and Canyon Club bar-flanked by plush cabanas and surrounded by Singapore's downtown skyline-feels very West Hollywood.
The Mondrian Singapore has also partnered with The Artling to introduce the Duxton Art Collection, a permanent collection of artworks by emerging and established Singaporean and international artists.
