AS the Scotland squad gears up for Euro 2024, the whole nation is gripped in tense anticipation for the big kick-off.
The opening match against Germany is a big moment for Scotland, and the achievements of the Dark Blues have not been lost on our first opponent.
With 90 caps for Germany under his belt, Rudi Völler is now director of its men's national team - and he is eagerly awaiting the start of the championship.
"To play an opening game in your own country is something very special, and Scotland is a great opponent for our first match," he says.
Völler has first-hand experience with Scottish players and fans, being part of the German squad 38 years ago.
"Scottish teams always showcase a lot of passion, something I experienced myself at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico," he says.
"In the group game against them, we were 1-0 down relatively early on but, fortunately, we were able to turn the game around. I have fond memories of that game.
"The Scottish national team is traditionally accompanied by many enthusiastic and loud - but peaceful-fans," he adds.
"It will be a wonderful start to our European Championship; something the whole of Germany can look forward to."
