NOMOS GLASHÜTTE
Founded in 1990 by Roland Schwertner, Nomos Glashütte is now Germany's largest manufacturer of mechanical watches. More than 180 employees produce watches and calibres on-site with the valued designation of being made in Glashütte. Additional employees, mainly in Berlin, bring the workforce to a total of about 200 people. The brand currently has 13 watch families and offers around 170 models. Over the years, the manufactory has undergone a massive development in the design and production of its own calibres. Initially offering only hand-wound movements, the brand has gradually added more automatic calibres to its portfolio, which now has seven automatic and six handwound movements. Ten of these are designated as 'Deutsche Uhrenwerke' (German watch movements) and mark the special manufacturing expertise of Nomos Glashütte. The company prides itself on its own rateregulating mechanism, the Nomos Swing System.
In times of conspicuously large wristwatches, the Nomos Club has steadfastly gone its own way. It has increased its size by just 1mm from the original diameter of 35mm, so it still fits in, or should we say, is once again fitting in with the trend towards smaller timepieces. Certainly, a number of Club variations have been added over the years. The Club Campus, for example, is an entry-level watch with Roman numerals instead of Arabic ones at 4 and at 8. The Club Sport Neomatik has a case that is 1mm larger and houses automatic manufacture Caliber DUW 3001. And finally, there’s the diving Club with watches from the Aqua series. With a diameter of 41.5mm, these rank among this manufacturer’s largest timepieces. Equipped with automatic Caliber DUW 5101 and pressure resistant to 20 bar, they are also some of Nomos Glashütte’s sportiest and most robust models.
