A day after Mirror highlighted the prolonged vacancy of Sector-2 since May 2023, the state government moved swiftly to fill the position. Additional DGP Brijesh Kumar Jha had vacated the post following his transfer as Rajkot Police Commissioner after the tragic Rajkot TRP Mall fire, which claimed 27 innocent lives. On Monday, 2010 batch IPS officer Jaipalsinh Rathore was appointed as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Sector-2, covering primarily the eastern parts of the city, an area recently plagued by law-and-order issues.
In a related reshuffle, 2013 batch IPS officer Himkar Singh was posted as Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajkot Rural, with the post downgraded to accommodate the transfer.
The government’s late-night transfer orders brought relief to several IPS officers awaiting postings, particularly those affected by the aftermath of the Rajkot fire tragedy. Among them were IPS Sudhir Desai and IPS Vidhi Choudhary, who received postings nearly 20 months after the incident.
