The city police's Anti Human Trafficking Unit's (AHTU) drive in the city aimed at stopping begging on the streets is unearthing sordid sagas in which women and children are being pushed into the profession.
The third day of the drive saw the cops rescuing a very young pregnant woman on Saturday. Police Sub Inspector GR Chauhan told Mirror that while conducting the drive they came across a young pregnant woman begging on CG Road. "It immediately struck me that I had seen her earlier with a child in her hand. We rescued her and we learned that these women are pushed into begging on city roads.
To get more alms they are forced/ encouraged to get pregnant again and again," said Chauhan.
