AMC's multi-level parking spaces have few takers

Citizens shun paid parking, leaving costly facilities underutilised

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has poured money into multi-level parking facilities across the city, hoping to ease traffic congestion and encourage organised parking. However, a ground check reveals these lots remain largely empty while vehicles clog roads and footpaths.

Free parking preferred

Despite the AMC's efforts, citizens prefer free, albeit illegal parking. Prince Rajput, a local resident, explained why he avoids the Sindhu Bhavan parking facility: "When I have small work in the area, I park my vehicle where traffic police won't issue a challan, usually on the footpath. The traffic department doesn't bother with vehicles there."
