950 people arrested for driving under alcohol influence at border checkpoints

WIth only four days left for polling in Gujarat, the state’s prohibition has sparked risky booze-fuelled ‘spiritual’ trips to Rajasthan. Despite the increased risk of getting caught at one of the 133 border check posts connecting Gujarat to Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, the imminent polling day hasn’t deterred spirits enthusiasts.

However, with law enforcement tightening security at these checkpoints, many find themselves apprehended for driving under the influence or attempting to smuggle alcohol back into Gujarat. Enhanced security measures now include CCTV and breath analysers across all checkpoints to curb drunk driving.
