The Gujarat government's urban development department is set to issue an official notification for the formation of nine new municipal corporations in the coming days, sources said. The municipalities that will be elevated as municipal corporations are Mehsana, Morbi, Vapi, Navsari, Gandhidham, Anand, Surendranagar-Wadhwan, Porbandar-Chhaya and Nadiad.
Currently, about 49 per cent of the population in Gujarat lives in small and big cities or towns.
