The city police have once again called upon the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) to bolster security measures along the riverfront, particularly in the lead-up to the Navratri. In a recent letter, they stressed the urgent need to install LED streetlights in dimly lit and secluded areas, which are potential hotspots for criminal activity.
The police pointed out that installing CCTV cameras at public spaces with high footfall is mandatory under the Gujarat Public Safety Act. Citing Section 3 of the Act, they stated that any establishment frequented by an average of 1,000 people per day must implement public safety measures. As the daily footfall on the riverfront exceeds that limit, the SRFDCL is obligated to comply.
