New Year surprise: 12 IPS officers get promotion

Neerja Gotru gets DGP rank, Nipuna Torwane promoted as addl DGP; total 23 get promotion, selection grade, jr administrative grades

In a surprise move at the start of the New Year, the Gujarat government granted promotions, selection grades and junior administrative grade (JAG) to 23 IPS officers. Of these, 12 got promoted. Neerja Gotru, a 1993-batch IPS officer, was elevated to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) and posted as the DGP of the Police Recruitment Board.

Meanwhile, 2000-batch IPS officer Nipuna Torwane was promoted from the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP) to Additional Director General of Police (Addl DGP) and appointed as Home secretary, with her post being upgraded to an ex-cadre position.
