Following the All India Council for Technical Education's (AICTE) directives, the Gujarat education department allowed working professionals to pursue diploma and degree engineering courses in the state from this academic year. In the first year of implementation, however, only a few working professionals have come forward to take admission.
According to officials in the Admission Committee for Professional Diploma Courses, against 1,312 seats in diploma courses for working professionals, only 151 registered for admission this year. Of those, 130 were included in the merit list and 100 assigned seats, all in government and grant-in-aid colleges.
