Analysts have given a thumbs up to the proposed joint venture (JV) between Reliance Industries (RIL) and The Walt Disney Company. The stock of the Mukesh Ambani-controlled company gained nearly 1.5 per cent on Thursday, reaching ₹2,952 levels, compared to the S&P BSE Sensex, which traded marginally weak, down 0.2 per cent to 72,172 levels in intraday trade.
According to analysts at Emkay Global, the JV has the potential to alter the media and entertainment industry paradigm by establishing the single-largest player in the broadcasting and digital space, holding a 40-45 per cent advertising market share Due to its sheer size, the JV will also have the ability to negotiate more effectively with content producers and advertisers.
This development is expected to be negative for other players such as Zee Entertainment Enterprises, as analysts suggest they must now compete a much larger entity.
