Blinken: This could be the last chance to save Israeli hostages

HOPES for the release of Israeli hostages are on their last chance, US envoy Antony Blinken warned as negotiations for a Gaza peace deal reached a critical point.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last night accepted US proposals for a deal, following frantic negotiations after Hamas rejected an earlier proposal yesterday.

Mr Blinken said it was now up to Hamas to also accept the plans, adding: "The longer this goes on, the more the hostages will suffer."

He did not say whether the "bridging proposal" addressed concerns cited by Hamas.

Rejecting the earlier bid, the terror group accused Mr Netanyahu of putting up "new obstacles" and said he would be held to account for the lives of hostages it is holding in the Strip. It added: "We hold Netanyahu fully responsible for thwarting the mediators' efforts and obstructing an agreement."
