The blaze had spread from the ground and first floors of a semidetached house at about 3am on Friday, and firefighters said they are now looking into the role an e-scooter may have played.
The pensioner died at the scene, while another man in his 30s escaped and was taken to hospital after the horror in Chorlton, Manchester.
The fire was extinguished at about 7am.
