Omagh inquiry will 'fearlessly' find truth

Bereaved families and survivors arrived yesterday for the first day of the public hearing.

Judge Lord Turnbull's inquiry will examine whether the massacre could reasonably have been prevented by UK authorities.

The attack on August 15, 1998 was carried out by a dissident republican group months after the Good Friday Agreement and also killed a woman pregnant with twins. The names of those who lost their lives were read out at the hearing at Strule Arts Centire in the Co Tyrone town while all stood for a minute's silence in their memory.
