SYDNEY Opera House's famous sails will be lit up to welcome the King and Queen to Australia amid a row over senior politicians declining to greet the royals.

The landmark will be illuminated on Friday night with a four-minute looping montage of pictures of previous royal visits to Sydney.

Charles and Camilla will touch down that evening and attend events in the city as well as the capital Canberra before heading to Samoa next Wednesday.
