THE Middle East is teetering on the brink of full-scale war after Israel launched revenge strikes against Hezbollah for a devastating blast that killed 12 children.

Revenge attacks raise spectre of all-out war

Israeli jets hit "terror targets" deep inside Lebanon yesterday in retaliation after the youngsters, aged ten to 16, were killed as they played football.

The rockets on Saturday had been fired from Lebanon resulting in the deadliest attack on Israel since the October 7 massacre, in which 1,200 people were killed.

The Israeli Air Force said it had struck seven sites, including "weapons caches and terrorist infrastructure", but it was unclear whether there were any casualties.

Israel blamed Iran-backed Hezbollah for the attacks but the militant group has strongly denied involvement instead accusing Israel of being responsible - as world leaders urged restraint.
