Rory will be haunted for rest of his life

RORY MCILROY has been told his two short-putt misses at the US Open will "haunt him for life".

McIlroy suffered heartbreak on Sunday despite seizing a two-shot lead with five holes remaining, with fans believing his 10-year Major drought was at an end.

But the 35-year-old Northern Irishman missed two tiddlers as he bogeyed three of the last four holes to open the door for Bryson DeChambeau, who produced a moment of magic at the 18th to triumph.

The misses came from 2ft 6in and 3ft 9in respectively and former world No.1 Sir Nick Faldo, above, said: "That's going to haunt Rory for the rest of his life."

McIlroy sped off the premises at the end but performance coach Jon Adler believes the display can propel him to another Major crown at next month's Open Championship at Royal Troon.
