Tax cuts, trade tariffs, tough on migrants...president vows to ‘make America great again for all Americans'

The country's next Commander in Chief, who completed a stunning comeback last night, focused on the economy and immigration during a tumultuous campaign.

Mr Trump wants tax cuts, to help the middle class with the cost of living through changes to interest rates on borrowing, reduce inflation, make healthcare more affordable and invest in US business.

He has also said he wants to increase tariffs on imports from around the world by at least 10%, rising to 60% on goods from China.

Mr Trump's first executive orders in January are expected to be to "get back to drilling" and restoring border controls.

The Republican firebrand has vowed to regain control of the border with Mexico through mass deportations, the creation of detention camps and thousands more border guards. He is also expected to invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to expel suspected members of drug cartels and criminal gangs without a court hearing.

Divisions

In his victory speech in Florida, Mr Trump said: "It's time to unite.

"It's time to put the divisions of the past four years behind us.

"Success is going to bring us together and we are going to start by putting America first - because together we can truly make America great again for all Americans."

During his first term in office, his Tax Cuts and Jobs Act reduced the burden of the state on millions of citizens. But many of the measures are due to expire in 2025 and Mr Trump's allies in Congress are understood to already be drawing up plans to extend it.
