US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby insisted America now had "every expectation" that Israel would "say yes" to the proposed ceasefire deal if the Palestinian-proscribed terror group also did so.
He said: "We're waiting for an official response from Hamas." Mr Kirby added the US hoped both sides would agree to start the first phase "as soon as possible".
In that proposed initial six-week pause in fighting, Mr Kirby said the "two sides would try to negotiate what phase two could look like and when it could begin".
