Holidaymakers told to turn up three hours before flights after problems last week stood in long queues outside Birmingham Airport from 4am.
One passenger described "people collapsing all around the place".
And tedious waiting times spread to other airports around the country.
At Bristol Airport long lines started to form following delays at check-in and border control after new scanners became operational for the first time.
The queue for security was "all the way outside the terminal and down the street" by 5.55am, it was said.

Some passengers reportedly missed their flights after being forced to wait in the long lines.
