Vu's late burst ends brave European rally

EUROPE staged a gritty fightback but could not stop the United States winning the Solheim Cup for the first time since 2017 in dramatic fashion in Virginia.

World No.2 Lilia Vu birdied the final two holes at Gainesville to halve her match with Swiss rookie Albane Valenzuela and edge the home side over the line.

"I can't put it into words," Vu said after her team won by 15 1/2 points to 12 1/2.

"I felt like I didn't do my part this week and I wanted to get something done.
