THE jacket potato is becoming a lunchtime cost-saving legend as workers peel away from expensive sarnies, sushi and salads.

Six out of ten people have been saving money by baking their own spuds, a survey has found, and 82% now hail them the ultimate mid-week midday meal.

As the days get colder, we eat an average of eight jackets a month, according to the poll by plant-based cheese brand Nurishh. And 88% said they eat them instead of shop-bought lunch items to save cash.
