A PROLONGED exodus while the Tories were in power caused the NHS shortfall of 150,000 staff, a report has concluded.
Between 2010 and 2023 the average annual leaver rate was 11.2%, or one in nine employees.
This was up markedly from the 9.5% in 2009/10. Had it remained the same after Labour was ousted, 12,000 NHS staff would have been retained each year, the Institute for Public Policy Research study shows.
Its report, seen by the Mirror, lays the blame squarely on the Tories and states that if the number of new employees had remained constant, 150,000 additional staff could have been retained in those 13 years.
