
A 15-YEAR-OLD boy has become the first person to be charged with rioting over the recent wave of nationwide disorder.
Police have made 1,127 arrests nationwide in connection with the unrest, many for violent disorder.
The 15-year-old had admitted two counts of that charge, but was then charged with the more serious offence of riot, which requires more people to be involved, with a "common purpose'.
It carries a 10-year maximum sentence, double the term for violent disorder.
