THE first UK case of a potentially deadly strain of the mpox virus has been detected in London.
The UK Health Security Agency said the risk from the Clade Ib mpox strain "remains low".
The person involved had been on holiday in Africa and returned to the UK on October 21.
They suffered from flu-like symptoms and, on October 24, started to develop a rash.
The person attended an emergency department on October 27.
They have since been transferred to the Royal Free Hospital high-consequence infectious diseases unit.
