GUARDING THE CROWN

PEP GUARDIOLA has vowed to defend Manchester City's Premier League crown - and warned that he is prepared to splash the cash if necessary.

Guardiola has won a record four successive titles with City - and six in seven years - and he knows Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are gunning for them.

Today's Community Shield opponents United have so far splashed out £88.5million in the transfer market, while Arsenal have spent £69m.

City's £81m sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid means they have made £120m this summer and Guardiola says they will spend if the price is right.
