Sunak slammed over plans to fine or jail rough sleepers

HEARTLESS

RISHI Sunak's plan to fine or jail rough sleepers faces opposition from charities, MPs of all major parties, a minister and even a former Tory leader.

The Prime Minister has been called heartless over the proposed laws.

And he faces a backbench rebellion with business minister Kevin Hollinrake yesterday refusing to back the plan publicly.

He would only say: "Those things are not within my auspices. I will be interested to see the legislation as it goes through and what the Prime Minister has planned."

The Criminal Justice Bill creates offences that would mean people sleeping in doorways or on streets are punished for being a public nuisance. They could be fined up to £2,500 or even jailed.
