Smiling, chuckling and waving alongside Queen Camilla, he spoke to patients and doctors at University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre yesterday.
He said his diagnosis had been "a bit of a shock" and told patients he was off for his own treatment later in the day.
The King said: "I've got to have my treatment this afternoon as well... I know how you're feeling." Lesley Woodbridge, 63, who was receiving chemotherapy for sarcoma, asked how he was. Charles replied: "Not too bad. It's always a bit of a shock isn't it, when they tell you."
The King, 75, openly answered questions about his health, repeatedly reassuring patients in the Central London hospital.
He said to one: "I'm feeling OK today," and told Asha Millen, 60, who is receiving chemotherapy for bone marrow cancer: "I'm well."
Charles asked one male patient whether he was using a cold cap, a method for retaining hair during chemotherapy, and was heard to say it can help. The King has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer since February.
Last Friday, after almost three months of treatment, Buckingham Palace announced he would be returning to public-facing duties. But they warned each engagement would be looked at and "adapted" according to advice.
