IRISH premier Leo Varadkar has announced that he is stepping down, saying he is no longer "the best person for that job".
The 45-year-old quit as Fine Gael leader with immediate effect yesterday but will stay on as Taoiseach until a successor is appointed.
Mr Varadkar revealed his decision in an emotional speech in Dublin, saying his reasons were "both personal and political".
He said: "One part of leadership is knowing when the time has come to pass on the baton, and then having the courage to do it.
