MPs to vote on the 'indefensible' hereditary peers

MPS will finally vote on booting out the remaining hereditary peers from the House of Lords.

Tomorrow's key vote could lead to a clearout of seats for people who inherit their titles by next year.

In 1999, Labour PM Tony Blair cut the number of hereditary peers able to sit in the upper chamber by 667 -but 92 remained as a compromise.

A second stage of reform to remove the 92 was never completed by the last Labour government.
