My son's legacy is making F1 safer

TEN years on from the crash that killed Jules Bianchi his mother continues to take comfort from the fact his legacy lives on.

In 2014, the Frenchman was in just his second season of what looked to be a promising Formula One career.

He scored points for minnows Marussia in Monaco, finishing ninth from 21st on the grid, and was linked with a fairytale move to Ferrari.

Several days after he declared himself "ready" for that step up, disaster struck.

On October 5, during a rain-soaked Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, he went off track and collided at high speed into a piece of machinery which was removing a crashed car.

Bianchi suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to hospital where he was placed into a coma.
