KEIR'S MAGGIE BACKLASH
KEIR Starmer’s praise for Margaret Thatcher in a Tory paper yesterday will spark fury in Mirror heartlands decimated by her cruel policies.
Union leaders and MPs from areas where people lost their industries and livelihoods because of the Conservative former Prime Minister could not believe what they were reading.
In a blatant bid to woo disillusioned Tory voters over to Labour, party leader Mr Starmer wrote in the Sunday Telegraph: "Every moment of meaningful change in modern British politics begins with the realisation that politics must act in service of the British people, rather than dictating to them.
"Margaret Thatcher sought to drag Britain out of its stupor by setting loose our natural entrepreneurialism."
He also praised past Labour PMs Sir Tony Blair for "seizing the optimism of the late 1990s" and Clement Atlee for writing that "Labour must be a party of duty and patriotism".
