It is meant as a reminder of the fear and intimidation Galatasaray's vocal fans can instil in opponents who set foot in the cauldron, but it could have been written for Andre Onana last night.

For Onana was solely culpable for Manchester United's capitulation here, his two howlers nudging Erik ten Hag's (left) side closer to Champions elimination.

After an error-strewn start to his career at Old Trafford, the Cameroon international had settled down in recent weeks.

But here he was back to being a liability, gifting the Turkish giants two goals with slapstick incompetence.

Tellingly, at the final whistle, not one United player went to console Onana. It was left to Galatasaray keeper Fernando Muslera to offer his support.

Publicly, Ten Hag will back the 27-year-old, but privately he must consider whether he needs to be taken out of the firing line for his own good, with every mistake undermining his continued selection. United No.2, Altay Bayindir, is still waiting to make his debut, but it may come soon if the Dutchman decides the time has come to drop Onana (far right) after one blunder too many.
