THE only consolation for well beaten Newcastle in the end was that it could have been far worse.

This was a real humiliation and awful preparation for Newcastle's make-or-break Champions League showdown with Italian giants AC Milan on Wednesday night.

Richarlison scored twice and, for once, looked like the player Tottenham thought they were getting when they paid £60million for him 18 months ago.

Richarlison's double took him to four goals in all competitions this season, which is already one better than he managed in the whole of last season. But Tottenham's whole team performance felt like a long overdue reaction to a dismal run of five games without a win.

They had too much energy for a Newcastle side that looked dead on its feet.
