EVERY time Trey Smith steps on a football field, he fulfils a promise he made as a teenager to his mother on her death bed.

The 6ft 6in, 23-stone behemoth from Tennessee was left heartbroken in February 2015 when his mother.

died in hospital following a short illness with heart complications.

Now a third-year pro with the Kansas City Chiefs and preparing to play in his second Super Bowl, whenever Smith has struggles or doubts over what he can achieve, he remembers one day in particular.

"My mom, Dorsetta Smith, is my why"," he said. "I lost her when I was 15 years old. I remember sitting at her bedside and one of the last conversations I had with her was 'I'm going to get my degree and I'm going to play in the NFL one day.
