Daniel Khalife, 23, is alleged to have fled HMP Wandsworth in South London by strapping himself to the underside of a food delivery truck in September 2023.
It was also claimed he went to M&S, Mountain Warehouse and Sainsbury's before being arrested three days later.
After his arrest, he said: "I don't know how immigrants do it", thought to be a reference to being under a lorry.
