THE Scottish Government launched a public consultation the plans has over revealed in the Daily Record last month - to give a quarter of households a massive hike in their council tax bills in a bid to support struggling local authorities.

SNP ministers insisted the plans to hike rates for homes ranked in the highest bands of E, F, G and H would make the controversial council tax system fairer by asking better-off Scots to pay more.

The Record first revealed how the government was working with Cosla, which represents councils, on proposals to raise more cash from local taxes.
