A BILLION REASONS RODGERS IS THE MAN

DERMOT DESMOND is a man of few words when it comes to addressing the public but Celtic’s major powerbroker proves actions speak louder than words.

And once again the man who wields the power at Parkhead has pulled off another big statement to prove his clout.

Billionaires don’t tend to settle for anything less than the very best and that’s what Desmond sees when he looks at Brendan Rodgers.

When the Irish finance magnate started to study the list of potential runners to replace Ange Postecoglou – before the Aussie had even put pen to paper at Tottenham – there was one name that refused to budge from the top of the pile.

The fact Rodgers had been at the club before didn’t matter.

The reaction from some spoiled fans to his departure almost four-and-a-half years ago didn’t raise an eyebrow.

Desmond wanted the best for Celtic and that meant going back to the man who smashed his way through Scottish football last time around. Rodgers insisted it was an easy decision to return.

But the 50-year-old still took some persuading when the plan to take a year out and then attempt to sniff out a job on the continent sounded pretty appealing.

Desmond can be pretty persuasive, though, and it was clear when the manager warmed to the idea of another stint in the hotseat, the main man would move heaven and earth to get it done.
