The Englishman became the first three-time Dunhill Links champion as he claimed a birdie on the 72nd hole to pip Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts to the £620,000 top prize by a shot.

Hatton, who won here in 2016 and 2017, also secured his spot in the DP World Tour's season finale in Dubai, allowing him to go to Matt Fitzpatrick's wedding.

The 32-year-old, who was tied with Colsaerts on 23 under on the 18th tee, said: "I was meant to be going to Fitzy's wedding the week of Spain (Andalucia Masters) and I had to message him a few weeks ago to say if I don't earn enough points, I might not be able to go. I felt so bad about that.
