Bullying left staff terrified to speak

A SENIOR NHS doctor has laid bare the "culture of bullying" and secrecy within a hospital hit by infection deaths.

Dr Penelope Redding worked as an infection control doctor until 2008 and was involved in planning the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in Glasgow, which opened in 2015.

The consultant microbiologist told the Scottish Hospitals Inquiry that she called for an external expert to be brought in, and that the Informal Review of Infection Control Issues document from 2015 was never shared with her.

Dr Redding said: "There were a lot of occasions where concerns had been raised but the reports were never really shared." The inquiry is investigating the construction of the QEUH campus in Glasgow, which includes the Royal Hospital for Children.
