Cocaine kingpin guilty plea cost taxpayers £40k

A CRIME gang headed by Jamie "Iceman" Stevenson has cost taxpayers almost £40,000 in legal aid.

Stevenson, 59, was in charge of an international cocaine smuggling operation which attempted to import £76million of the class-A drug inside boxes of bananas.

The gangster was told the profits from the drugs, which were shipped from Ecuador, would be "life changing" but the shipment was intercepted at Dover.

A trial started at the High Court in Glasgow last month but, with evidence mounting, Stevenson and his cronies were left with no choice but to plead guilty.
