A WOMAN of 78 was found dead as police swarmed on a quiet residential street.
The incident unfolded on Edinburgh’s Fernieside Crescent yesterday morning as neighbours described hearing “screams” at about 8am.
After police rushed to the scene, noises sounding “like firecrackers” were heard by local residents.
Officers from Police Scotland descended on the street in the south of the capital after receiving reports of a disturbance within a house at 8.25am. Locals were warned to stay indoors and shut their windows as police swarmed the housing estate.
Paramedics also attended and the 78-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police confirmed they arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with the death and inquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
Footage later emerged of the incident as it unfolded.
CCTV overlooking a garden near Fernieside Crescent shows a police officer running through and past a dog that starts barking.
It goes quiet before voices can be heard, with a police officer shouting several times “get your hands over your head”.
Images from the scene show multiple police vehicles and ambulance crews in attendance.
