Scott: Hoggy’s a legend... we’re gutted we didn’t help him hit 100 caps in style

CRIME OF THE CENTURY

SCOTT CUMMINGS admits Scotland’s collapse to Ireland not only ruined any Six Nations title hopes but denied centurion Stuart Hogg a fitting day to remember.

The dark blues lock believes his team-mate’s 100th cap milestone deserved so much more at Murrayfield than being eased aside by the Grand Slam favourites, who delivered a dominant second-half display in their 22-7 victory.

It was a defeat that denied Gregor Townsend’s side a first Triple Crown since 1990 and Cummings revealed the dressing-room regret at letting down the Exeter Chiefs full-back.

He said: “Hoggy is a true legend of Scottish rugby.

“It means a lot. We’re all pretty gutted because it was a monumental occasion for him getting to 100 caps.
