FOOD LINK TO E. COLI OUTBREAK

THIRTEEN people in Scotland have been affected by an outbreak of E. coli, with the number expected to rise, a public health body warned.

They are part of a widespread infection, with 113 cases reported across the UK since May 25. It is believed to be linked to a nationally distributed food item.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said all cases involve Shiga toxin-producing E. coli 0145 (Stec), with a further 81 cases in England, 18 in Wales and one in Northern Ireland.

Those who have fallen ill range from ages two to 79, with the majority of cases in young adults.
