The number of children living in temporary accommodation in the city has also jumped to 2832.

Labour MSP Mark Griffin said: "Scotland is in the grips of a devastating housing emergency - from soaring rents to unaffordable mortgages to record levels of homelessness.

"Far from taking the urgent action needed to fix this crisis, the SNP has fuelled it. While housebuilding plummets once again, the SNP is ploughing ahead with its disastrous plans to slash funding for affordable housing."

A total of 7265 people were in temporary accommodation as of April 1 but new figures show a rise to 7371 in June. The statistic for children rose from 2765 over the same period.

Other figures from the Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership reveal £27million has been handed to private hotels and B&Bs in 2023-24 to house the homeless.
