Ex-PM leaves... with a stinging attack on Sunak's government

SHAMED Boris Johnson sensationally quit as an MP over Partygate last night in a fresh bombshell for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The former PM resigned his London seat of Uxbridge and South Ruislip after seeing a report by MPs into.

whether he misled the Commons over lockdown-busting parties in No10.

If they find he did mislead Parliament, he could have been suspended - and a ban of 10 days or more would have almost certainly triggered a by-election that Johnson was tipped to lose.

His bombshell decision to quit followed a bitter row with Sunak over resignation honours, after the current PM rejected some of Johnson's nominations.

Lib Dem deputy leader Daisy Cooper said simply: "Good riddance.

But the ex-premier threatened a Westminster comeback one day, saying: "It is very sad to be leaving Parliament at least for now." He also refused to rule out standing in a snap by-election in a safer seat-vacated hours earlier by his close ally Nadine Dorries, who also quit Parliament.

Johnson had a majority of just 7210 at the December 2019 election and his north-west London constituency is considered vulnerable by Tory high command.

Lib Dems were already drawing up plans for a high-profile campaign last night.
