SCOTLAND....0 ENGLAND....6
PLAYING for Scotland at Hampden might be the stuff of childhood dreams – but this game against England was a nightmare for Pedro Martinez Losa’s woefully inept side.
Alex Greenwood’s goal and double from Lauren James followed by goals from Beth Mead, Fran Kirby and Lucy Bronze were the end result of a dire Scotland performance.
But England still missed out on the semi-finals – along with an Olympics place for Team GB – as the Netherlands beat Belgium 4-0 to top the group on goals.
Sarina Wiegman’s side had arrived with purpose and intent – at 3-0 up they were still bolting to retrieve the ball and restart the game – and Scotland felt the full force of their quality.
Martinez Losa insisted he took full responsibility for the result. The Scotland boss said: “Very disappointed and very frustrated. I want to apologise to the fans. This is not the level we expected.
“Especially in the first half, we totally lost concentration. I also give credit to England, I thought they were excellent.
“We had chances to get back in the game but it was very difficult. It was a tough night for our players.
