Hands up... we would have liked more in the door

STEVEN MacLEAN has bemoaned having no new signings to field when St Johnstone's competitive campaign kicks off.

Saints await international clearance before officially announcing Dimitar Mitov. And the Bulgarian keeper, MacLean's first signing as manager, won't face Stenhousemuir tomorrow.

Macca can't wait for the Viaplay Cup action to kick-start his first full season as manager after two friendlies.

But he said: "The only downside is I'd have probably liked three or four more players in.

"You want these competitive games but you'd rather have your squad in place.

"But I'm comfortable with what I've got. If I've got everyone fit then I've got a good nucleus.

"We're very close to one signing. Hopefully that gets over the line soon. We're just waiting on a couple of things. But we've missed out on another we thought we might have got.
