PAUL LAWRIE believes Bob MacIntyre's Canadian Open success can serve as an inspiration for Scotland's next generation of golfers.
The 27-year-old, who had his dad Dougie caddying for him, claimed his first victory on the PGA Tour on Sunday night.
MacIntyre posted a two-under 68 on the final day to deliver at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club by one stroke on 16 under.
The biggest win of his career saw the Oban ace bank more than £1.3million and storm up the world rankings to a career-high 39th.
It also guarantees the Rome Ryder Cup star his ticket to the big time, clinching entry to next weeks US Open, The Players, Masters as well as the US PGA, along with qualification to Memorial this week and the Travelers the other side of his latest Major showing, Lawrie hailed MacIntyre for his famous win and while it happened across the Atlantic, he believes it can be a real shot in the arm for golf back here at home.
The 1999 Open champion said: "I'm delighted to see a Scotsman win on the PGA Tour.
"Hopefully lots of juniors will get a lift from seeing Bob doing so well. Congratulations to Bob, his team and family." It was Ontario rather than Oban for MacIntyre last week and the lefty admitted it was massive having his dad alongside him in Canada.
MacIntyre senior was trying to keep his son focused on the final hole while his son was more preoccupied with trying to win the tournament for his dad, his golfing inspiration and head greenkeeper at Glencruitten Golf Club at home.
